The name Twelfth Labour was inspired by Tom determining that starting a vineyard would be the 12th industry he would enter. He was amused that, as an octogenarian, he was getting into a business that required a good deal of time and patience.
It reminded him of the 12 Labors of Hercules in which the final labor (the 12th) was to capture and subdue Cerberus, the three-headed guard dog of the underworld.
Therefore, the label features a 1608 etching entitled Hercules and Cerberus: Hercules grasps the collar of Cerberus from the ‘Labors of Hercules’ by Antonio Tempesta (1555-1630).
Twelfth Labour Wine Company is overseen by John Ruston. John also serves as owner of the Ruston Family Vineyard and wine making company in Napa Valley, CA.
Twelfth Labour’s winemaker is Robbie Meyer. Robbie started his career at the Peter Michael Winery in 1998. He later worked as winemaker at Lewis Cellars and started his own label, Peirson Meyer.
